Where Dr. Barbara Sturm comes from
Dr. Barbara Sturm is a German doctor and orthopedics specialist who studied medicine and sports at Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf. She worked on treatments for inflammatory conditions such as osteoarthritis, and in 2002 she brought that science into aesthetics, creating a platelet-rich plasma facial and a plasma-based moisturizer, MC1. When her patients asked for a full routine, she created her own, and her anti-inflammatory collection, Molecular Cosmetics, was born in 2014. The brand describes “molecular” as working at the cellular level, with each active ingredient chosen for a specific job in the skin. Today it sells serums, creams, cleansers, masks, eye care, body and hair care, and also offers virtual consultations and spa treatments.
What Dr. Barbara Sturm stands for
The brand’s pitch is skincare formulated with molecular science to calm inflammation and repair the skin. Product photos show “Made in Germany” on the bottles, and many of its claims, such as being clinically proven, come from the brand itself. Its sustainability page says it is cruelty-free and has not tested finished products or ingredients on animals, and that it requires the same of suppliers. It says it uses RSPO-certified palm oil derivatives, recyclable paper for boxes and leaflets, and is moving from plastic jars to recyclable glass, with its manufacturers committed to CO2-neutral processes. We haven’t tested any of the products.
