Where Fjällräven comes from
Fjällräven (often typed Fjallraven without the dots) comes from Örnsköldsvik on Sweden’s High Coast. Åke Nordin, born there in 1936, built a wooden-framed backpack in his basement with his mother’s sewing machine, then founded Fjällräven in the same basement in 1960 and sold his first backpack, this time with an aluminium frame. In the 1960s and 70s the range grew to tents, sleeping bags, jackets and trousers, with the Greenland Jacket, the Expedition Down Jacket and the Kånken backpack becoming defining products. It expanded across Scandinavia and Europe in the 80s and 90s, and launched the 110 km Fjällräven Classic trek in 2005. The brand says its goal is to make nature more accessible, in a simple and practical Swedish style.
What Fjällräven stands for
Fjällräven says it develops functional, durable and timeless outdoor gear and acts responsibly towards nature, animals and people. Its pages point to the Arctic Fox Initiative, a sustainability section on materials, production and the Fjällräven Compass, and a care and repair program with guides for fabrics such as G-1000. Product pages list the materials: the Keb Trousers and Greenland jackets use G-1000 made from recycled polyester and organic cotton, and several bags and shirts use recycled polyester. Pages we read do not state where products are made. We haven’t tested any of the products.

Ordering from the US
Fjällräven’s US store ships within the continental US only and doesn’t ship to Puerto Rico or other US territories. Orders over $90 ship free, and the site says they can take up to 4 business days to ship from a warehouse in Colorado or a retail location, followed by 4 to 8 business days on economy delivery, with faster options also offered. Alaska and Hawaii can take an extra 7 to 14 days. P.O. boxes and military addresses are accepted but slower. You can return unused items with tags within 30 days of delivery (60 days for orders placed in November and December), either in a US Fjällräven store or by mail with a prepaid label. Refunds take 7 to 10 business days after the warehouse receives the return, original shipping isn’t refunded, and online exchanges aren’t offered. Customized Kånken Me bags are final sale.
