Where Amundsen Sports comes from
Amundsen Sports is an Oslo-based outdoor clothing company, and its terms name Amundsen Sports AS at Bogstadveien 11 in Oslo as the company behind the store. It takes its name and spirit from the polar explorer Roald Amundsen, who combined ancient wisdom with the technology of his time, and says it applies the same idea by pairing traditional craftsmanship with modern innovation. The brand describes a refined Norwegian outdoor lifestyle, with skiing in winter, hunting in fall and sailing in summer, and calls its approach rugged luxury. Its range covers wool knits, fleece, jackets, trousers, shirts, shorts and baselayers for men and women. The pages we read do not state a founding year.
What Amundsen Sports stands for
Amundsen says it starts with natural, time-honoured fabrics from Western Europe, designing for quality first and letting price follow. Its products are field-tested everywhere from the Arctic to the Alps, and it describes the aim as luxury in durability rather than excess. Product pages give a made-in country and composition for each item, and the pieces we checked were made in Italy, Portugal, Lithuania and Estonia from wool, corduroy and polyamide fabrics. Some knits use Norwegian wool. The brand does not publish certifications on the pages we read. We haven’t tested any of the products.
